Israeli Troops Tend With Palestinian Fighters In Khan Younis Gaza

JAKARTA - Israeli forces fought against Palestinian fighters in Khan Younis in southern Gaza by destroying tunnels and other infrastructure. Isral tries to suppress small militant units that continue to attack troops with mortar fire.

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said soldiers had killed about 100 Palestinian fighters since Israeli forces began their latest operation in Khan Younis on Monday, July 22, which continued as pressure increased to reach an agreement to stop fighting.

Seven Palestinian groups of fighters who fired mortars at soldiers were hit by airstrikes. In Rafah, four fighters were also killed in the airstrikes.

The armed wing of Islamic Jihad said it fired rockets at the city of Ashkelon in southern Israel and other Israeli cities near Gaza.

No casualties were reported, the Israeli ambulance service said.

The continuing fighting, more than nine months since the start of Israel's invasion of Gaza following the October 7 attack, underscores the difficulties faced by the IDF in eliminating fighters who return to forms of guerrilla warfare in the ruins of the coastal line.

The Telegram channel, operated by the armed wing of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, two major militant groups in Gaza, said fighters launched heavy fighting with Israeli forces in eastern Khan Younis using machine guns, mortars, and anti-tank weapons.

Medics said six Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on the east of Khan Younis.
