The Attorney General's Office Transfers One Sugar Corruption Suspect To The Pekanbaru Prosecutor's Office

JAKARTA - Jampidsus investigators at the Attorney General's Office (AGO) delegated one suspect in a case of alleged corruption in the sugar importation activity of PT Sumber Mutiara Indah Perdana (SMIP) in 2020-2023 to the Pekanbaru District Attorney (Kejari).

Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, Harli Siregar, said that the suspect with the initials RD as Director of PT SMIP.

"The team of investigating prosecutors at the Jampidsus Investigation Directorate of the Attorney General's Office has carried out the handover of the suspect's responsibility and the second stage of evidence for the suspect RD," said Halri.

In this case, he said, RD as Director of PT SMIP in 2021 has manipulated data on importing raw crystal sugar by inserting white crystal sugar and replacing packaged sacks so that it seems as if it has imported raw crystal sugar, then sold it in the domestic market.

The RD's actions violated the regulation of the Minister of Trade in conjunction with the Minister of Industry's regulations, and other laws and regulations, resulting in state financial losses in sugar importation activities by PT SMIP.

The article alleged against the suspect RD is Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code subsidiary Article 3 paragraph (1) jo. Article 18 of Law no. 31/1999 jo. Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

After the second phase of the delegation, the team of public prosecutors immediately prepared an indictment for the transfer of the case file to the Corruption Court at the Pekanbaru District Court.

Another suspect in the case, said Harli Siregar, was RR as Head of the Riau Customs Regional Office (Kanwil) for the 2019-2021 period. Currently, it is still in the filing stage.
