House Of Representatives Commission III: Information About Dozens Of DPR Members Involved In Online Gambling Is Not True

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman, again clarified the news that dozens of members of the DPR RI were involved in online gambling. He emphasized that the information was not true. He conveyed the incorrectness of the information after receiving an official letter from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs based on data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). "We have received a letter from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs whose source of information is PPATK. The letter was delivered directly by a PPATK deputy. It is not true that there are tens, hundreds, or thousands of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives who play online gambling," Habiburokhman told reporters, Monday, July 22. The deputy chairman of the DPR MKD said that the correct information was that there were around 50 employees within the DPR RI who were indicated to be playing online gambling, not members of the DPR RI. "The information submitted by PPATK is 58 employees in the DPR RI and there are only 2 suspected members of the DPR who play online gambling. However, after being investigated, the information is very vague and is most likely not true," said Habiburokhman. "The two people who are said to be activists opposed to gambling, so there is not enough evidence that they are involved." Previously, PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana revealed that there were more than a thousand legislators, both in the DPR and DPRD, involved in online gambling in a hearing with Commission III of the DPR on Wednesday, June 26. Ivan stated that PPATK had recorded more than 63,000 transactions with a total value of Rp. 25 billion carried out by the DPR and DPRD Anggitas. However, this information has been verified and acknowledged that data regarding DPR members who play online gambling is invalid. "So, there are not at all members of the DPR who have been proven to be playing online gambling," said Habiburokhman again.

The Gerindra legislator for the East Jakarta electoral district hopes that this clarification can ease speculation and misunderstandings that have developed in the community regarding the involvement of members of the DPR RI in online gambling activities. Habiburokhman emphasized the importance of accurate information and did not cause public unrest.
