Indonesia Urges Israel To Immediately Stop Illegal Population In Palestine

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi urged Israel to immediately end its illegal occupation in the Palestinian territories, following a historic legal fatwa set by the International Court (ICJ) on Friday 19 July 2024. Based on the ICJ fatwa, Indonesia asserted that Israel must end the construction of illegal settlements and evacuate all Jewish settlers as soon as possible. In addition, Israel is also obliged to repatriate in the form of restitution and compensation, including restoring the lands taken since 1967 and allowing all Palestinians expelled from their homes to return. In line with the fatwa of the law, Indonesia encourages the General Assembly and the UN Security Council to fulfill the request of the Court to take appropriate steps to end Israel's illegal existence in Palestine," Retno said in a written statement, Sunday, July 21. In the fatwa of the law, said Retno, the Court has enforced the rules based international order by establishing the illegal status of Israel's existence in the Palestinian Population Region. Therefore, Indonesia supports the Court's view so that all states and the United Nations do not recognize the situation posed from Israel's illegal existence, he said. Determination of a legal fatwa by the Court is seen as a first step towards realizing the complete independence of Palestine. This legal factional law shows that international law is in favor of the struggle of the Palestinians,'' said Retno. In factually, Israel is still the occupation force (occupying power) in the Palestinian occupation region. The violations imposed by ICJ are still ongoing. Retno explained that the Palestinian nation, particularly in Gaza, is still the target of Israeli military attacks.

Indonesia has again called for Israel to continue to have an obligation as an occupying power to fulfill the basic rights of Palestinians living in the occupied Palestinian territories, in line with the determination of the Supreme Court's fatwa," said Retno. In parallel, Indonesia will invite the international community and the United Nations to jointly follow up on the legal fatwa, and provide recognition of the existence of the Palestinian State.
