KPK-AGO Discusses Asset Confiscation To Crypto Money Laundering Search With US DOJ

The workshop for confiscation of assets by the KPK, the Attorney General's Office, the United States Department of Justice, and the United States Narcotics Agency (doc. Special).

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) discussed tracing, recovery, and asset management in a workshop with the Attorney General's Office, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), and the United States Narcotics Agency (DEA). The activity was held on 15-18 July 2024 or for three days.

KPK spokesman, Tessa Mahardika, said the workshop was held at the St Regis Hotel, Jakarta. The activity was opened by Tomikambarung from DOJ, Mungki Hadipratikto who is the Director of the KPK's Labuksi, and Emilwan Ridwan who is the Head of the AGO's Asset Recovery Center.

"The workshop is facilitated by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Neheri Foreign Prosecutor's Office for Assistance and Training Development (OPDAT)," Tessa said as quoted from her written statement, Saturday, July 20, 2024.

There are a number of topics discussed in the law. These include the perspective of confiscation of assets in laws in the United States and Indonesia, asset tracing techniques, crypto money laundering tracing techniques, procedures for managing complex or virtual assets, to assistance with mutual relations between the United States and Indonesia.

"Talkers at the workshop came from the FBI, the KPK, the Attorney General's Office, the United States Attorney General's Office, the IRS-CI Cyber Attache (CI Interval Investigation Revenue Service) Sydney, as well as the Division of Confiscation and International Units of US Marshal services," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.

In the future, this kind of activity will be carried out regularly. Tessa said law enforcers in Indonesia and the United States can share experiences and learn from each other.

"This workshop is very important. The KPK and the Indonesian Attorney General's Office as well as the United States Department of Justice are committed to continuing to increase cooperation in tracing and confiscation of assets originating from criminal acts of corruption," said Tessa.
