Missing NTT Fisherman Found Dead In Sikka Waters

LABUAN BAJO - The joint search and rescue team (SAR) found fishermen who were reported missing while at sea in the waters of Henga Village, Talibura District, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT). "The victim named Baco Umar (55) was found dead," said SAR Supriyanto Ridwan personnel who were contacted from Labuan Bajo, quoted by ANTARA Friday, July 19. He explained that the victim had not returned from the sea since Thursday 18 July 2024. "Based on information from the head of the hamlet, the victim's family and several witnesses, at 11.00 WITA they still saw the victim lifting a trawl. However, in the afternoon the victim did not return home until the family finally conducted a search, but only found the canoe and pukat victims," he explained. After receiving information, Basarnas Maumere deployed diving equipment and rubber boats as well as assisted by a fishing boat unit to search. The search for the victim was carried out on Friday morning and at 09.40 WITa the team found the victim in a floating state with the condition of having died.

"The discovery of the body is about a mile from the scene," he said. Subsequently, the victim's body was evacuated to the Talibura Health Center, Sikka Regency and then handed over to the family.
