Alexander Marwata Chooses Retirement After Acting KPK Leader For 2 Periods: I Did Not Register As A Council

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata chose to retire after serving for two terms, 2015-2019 and 2019-2024. He made sure not to register as a candidate for the supervisory board.

"No (registered as a KPK Council, ed). I want to retire after being at the KPK," Alexander told reporters when confirmed, Monday, July 15.

Alexander also admitted that he was tired of the current state of eradicating corruption. Everything is just wishful thinking if there is no desire from stakeholders, including the president as the highest leader.

As for this political will, continued Alexander, it can be shown by making the anti-corruption commission an institution that focuses on handling fraudulent practices. In fact, if the case is handled by other law enforcement agencies.

The hope is that the KPK can monitor the extent of the case. "Make the KPK an institution that oversees the handling of corruption cases," he said.
