The Temanggung Police have detained a gang of pickpockets from Cirebon, West Java, along with evidence of 25 cell phones/mobile phones.

Temanggung Police Chief AKBP Ary Sudrajat explained that there were four pickpockets who specialize in cell phones, and three of them were women.

"One of the three women is a recidivist, and even just left the detention center last May," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 15.

The initials of the suspects, namely R (40), I (40), and DRH (36) were from Cirebon, while one other suspect had the initials W (52) from Tegal, Central Java.

"The four suspects are planning a criminal act committed in the Temanggung jurisdiction," he said.

Before heading to Temanggung, this pickpocket gang sought information about crowds and religious events that invite public attraction.

The four suspects then rented a four-wheeled vehicle to go to Temanggung. Arriving at the location of the event or the center of the crowd, they immediately took action.

"The rental car departed from Cirebon to Tegal, then arrived at the Temanggung Square at around 18.30 WIB," he explained.

When the community packed the Temanggung Square, he said, the four suspects carried out their duties according to their respective duties.

"These four suspects, three suspects as women as pickers and one male suspect as collectors. They met at one point, namely in Panderan," he said.

From the suspect's hands, 25 cell phones from various brands were secured. This evidence is still being secured at the Temanggung Police Headquarters.

"Of these 25 cell phones, 23 of them have been detected by their owners. For people who feel they lost their cell phones during an event in Temanggung Square some time ago, they can immediately make a loss report and take their cell phone at the Temanggung Police Headquarters," he said.

According to him, the disclosure of this theft or pickpocketing case was due to the speed of residents' reports during the incident. With this report, officers in the field can immediately arrest the suspect.

"The suspect was arrested in Pandean Temanggung. The four suspects could not dodge because evidence in the form of cell phones was found during the arrest," he said.

The four suspects were threatened with 7 years as referred to in Article 363 of the Criminal Code.
