JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that more than 7 thousand residents were displaced due to floods that submerged most of the Gorontalo City area.
Head of BNPB Disaster Data and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said the government and cross-sectors carried out emergency response efforts in the form of evacuation of residents, establishment of evacuation posts, and establishment of public kitchens for displaced residents.
"The total number of evacuation posts that have been established is 59 points spread across each kelurahan. The total number of residents displaced is 7,486 people," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Monday, July 15.
Officers also evacuated the affected public facilities and infrastructure, to dredging landslide materials and cleaning up flood residues.
Abdul Muhari said that this flood was the fourth time during July 2024. The high intensity of rain on 10-13 July 2024 accompanied by geographical conditions in the Gorontalo City area in the form of basins caused this flood to be the worst in Gorontalo in mid-2024.
A few days ago, floods in Gorontalo submerged residential areas with water levels of up to 150 centimeters. On Monday, July 15, floods in several areas gradually receded.
A total of 47 sub-districts in nine sub-districts throughout Gorontalo City were affected by flooding, including Kota Barat District, Kota Utara, Kota Selatan, Kota Tengah, Kota Timur, Badminton Raya, Hulonthalangang, Dungingi, and Sipatana. The number of houses submerged by floods reached 4,686 units.

"The Mayor of Gorontalo has set an emergency response status for floods and landslides with Number 256/6/VII/2024 for 14 days starting from July 11, 2024 to July 24, 2024," he added.
