M 5.4 Earthquake Shakes Bengkulu Again Thursday Morning

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected earthquakes with a scale of more than 5 magnitudes again shaking a number of areas in Bengkulu and its surroundings. On Thursday 11 July morning at 04.00 WIB, BMKG again detected an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4.

Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, in a statement quoted by ANTARA, said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred Wednesday night at 22.32 WIB.

The epicenter of the tectonic earthquake is located at sea at a depth of 13 kilometers and is 130 kilometers from the Northwest of Enggano, Bengkulu.

On Thursday morning at 04.00 WIB, BMKG again detected an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4.Earthquake this time located at sea at a depth of 215 kilometers with coordinates of 6.55 LS.101.12 BT or 184 kilometers from Southwest Enggano, Bengkulu.

Earthquake shocks were felt in the Enggano, North Bengkulu areas with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI. Then in the South Pagai area, Mentawai Islands with an intensity scale of III MMI, and Putri Hijau, North Bengkulu with an intensity scale of II - III MMI.

The BMKG confirmed that the earthquake was a shallow type of earthquake caused by the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian Plate under the Eurasian Plate, and the earthquake shock did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

Until now, BMKG has not received reports of the impact of the damage caused by the earthquake.
