33 Victims Of Gold Mining Longor In Gorontalo, 8 Found Dead

GORONTALO - Eight of the 33 landslide victims that occurred in the mining area of the people of East Tulabolo Village, East Suwawa District, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province, were found dead.

Head of the Gorontalo Search and Rescue Office (SAR) Heriyanto in Gorontalo, said the eight people who died had been successfully evacuated along with five other people who were found safe.

"The results of data collection from people who feel they have lost their families are about 20 other victims who are still in the search stage," said Heriyanto as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 8.

He said the five residents who were found safe in the incident were mostly injured and broken bones, so they were immediately taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

Currently, hundreds of joint personnel from various agencies have been dispatched to the people's mining sites to search for victims.

The only obstacle in this SAR operation, he said, was that the location of the people's mine was 23.7 kilometers from the main SAR Command Post with difficult terrain conditions to pass.

In addition, all the bridges that are usually traversed by motorbikes to transport passengers to the mine site have been broken so that personnel must walk.

"Let us pray that the SAR Operation that we carried out will run smoothly and safely without significant obstacles, and God willing, all the victims can be found soon," he said.

He said that until now his party as the authority authorized and fully responsible in the SAR Operation is still trying to collect information and data related to the total number of victims.

"It is possible that the number of victims will increase," he added.
