Regarding Kaesang Forward In The Jakarta Gubernatorial Election, AHY: No Request Yet

Chairman of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said there had been no request from certain parties to his party to carry Kaesang Pangarep, advancing in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada.

He stressed that Democrats are still working on the names that are believed to be right and have the opportunity to win in the election for governors-deputy governors of Jakarta in the 2024 Pilkada.

"Is there a special request about Mas Kaesang to the Democratic Party yet," AHY said in response to reporters' questions during a press conference at the DPP office of the Democratic Party, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 4.

He continued that currently there has been no final decision to carry certain names in Jakarta.

"I have discussed several times with fellow politicians, including parties that are members of KIM (Indonesian Advanced Coalition). In principle, we are still conducting surveys, internal surveys, field reviews, and there has been no final decision regarding a number of areas mentioned earlier," said AHY.

Not only Jakarta, AHY said, Democrats have not yet determined the candidates for regional heads who will be promoted for West Java and Central Java.

"Even if there is, of course we will convey it. What is clear is that the Democrats want success in this election. We want to support cadres including figures who have the best chance of winning," he said. On the same occasion, AHY also emphasized that the party has not yet determined the candidate for regional head who is promoted for Banten Province.

He continued that the Democratic Party was in principle happy if any of its cadres had potential, but he stressed that the party still had to be realistic.

I always tell them, we have to be really realistic. Don't just have enthusiasm, but also have to have other preparations," said AHY.

The General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia has determined that regional head elections (pilkada) take place simultaneously in 37 provinces and 508 regencies/cities. The vote for the 2024 Pilkada is scheduled to take place on November 27, 2024.
