NATUNA - Basarnas Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, said the cargo ship Bintang Jaya 9 which lost contact in Jemaja waters, Anambas Islands Regency, had been found in Malaysian waters.
Head of the Operation Sub-Section of the Natuna Regency Basarnas Office, Budiman, said that the ship was swept away due to an engine failure on its way to Tanjung Balai Karimun.
According to him, the ship was found adrift in the Malaysian Sea by the Malaysian Navy. "Alhamdulillah, all the crew members were safe," he said when contacted by telephone from Natuna, Antara, Wednesday, July 3.
His party received information on the discovery of the ship from Malaysian authorities. Currently, the ship and crew were taken to the Tioman Island area of Malaysia, which will then be handed over to the local Immigration for further action.
"We received news from MRSC Kuantan (Malaysia) this afternoon," he said.
Previously, it was reported that a cargo ship with the name Bintang Jaya 9 was missing in the waters of Anambas Islands Regency, Riau Islands. The Bintang Jaya 9 ship carrying three crew members departed from Berhala Jemaja Port, Anambas Regency to Tanjung Balai Karimun.
The ship is expected to reach Tanjung Balai Karimun on Saturday, June 29, but until Monday, July 1 did not arrive.
