Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana stated that the government respects the decision of the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) which imposed permanent dismissal sanctions for the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari regarding cases of alleged immorality.

"The government respects the decision of the DKPP as an institution authorized to handle violations of the code of ethics of the election organizers," Ari said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 3.

Ari said the permanent dismissal sanction for the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, by the DKPP, would be followed up with the issuance of a Presidential Decree.

The Presidential Decree will be issued within seven days after the DKPP decision is read out.

"Currently, the government/Setneg is still waiting for a copy of the DKPP decision," said Ari.

Following the dismissal of the KPU chairman, the government ensures that the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) will continue according to schedule, because there is a mechanism for interim dismissal to fill the vacancy of KPU members.

Chairman of the DKPP Heddy Lugito read out the decision to dismiss Hasyim Asy'ari from the position of Chairman of the KPU in a trial at the DKPP RI Office, Jakarta, Wednesday. DKPP granted the complainant entirely, and asked President Joko Widodo to replace Hasyim within seven days of reading the verdict.

"The president of the Republic of Indonesia to carry out this decision no later than seven days after the verdict is read," he said.

DKPP also asked the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to oversee the implementation of the decision.
