YOGYAKARTA - The Central General Hospital (RSUP) Dr Sardjito Yogyakarta is still waiting for the family's decision regarding the repatriation of the body of Chinese men's singles badminton player Zhang Zhi Jie who died during the 2024 BNI Badminton Asia Junior Championships match on Sunday (30/6) night.

Head of Legal and Public Relations Section of Dr Sardjito Hospital, Banu Hermawan, said that until now Zhi Jie's body was still in the hospital.

"We are still waiting for coordination with the family, with PBSI (Indonesian Badminton Association), with the consulate. We will coordinate together," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 2.

According to Banu, if the family wants the athlete's body to be repatriated, Dr Sardjito Hospital is ready to help with full support from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).

"RSUP Sardjito as the hospital of the Ministry of Health is not alone, meaning that we are fully supported by the Ministry of Health in its capacity if the family wants this body to be repatriated," he said.

Since Zhi Jie's treatment was moved from the Air Force Central Hospital (RSPAU) Dr. S. Hardjolukito to Dr Sardjito Hospital, according to Banu, the medical team has carried out a number of arrangements and currently his body is stored in a forensic medicine cooler.

"After we carried out the management, we put the patient (bodies) or athletes in the cooler in forensic medicine," said Banu.

After that, Dr Sardjito Hospital confirmed that Banu had not taken any action except waiting for the arrival of the family from China.

Until now, according to him, there has been no information regarding when Zhi Jie's parents will come.

"We are waiting for the arrival of parents from China to be able to see fully the athletes. So that they can see the real conditions," he said.

Previously, Chinese men's singles badminton player Zhang Zhi Jie died after fainting on the field during the 2024 BNI Badminton Asia Junior Championships match at Amongrogo Sports Hall, Yogyakarta on Sunday night (30/6).

Based on examination and handling both at RSPAU Dr Hardjolukito and at Dr Sardjito Hospital, the same result was that the victim had sudden cardiac arrest.

The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has stated that it will fully bear the process of returning the athlete's body to the country of origin.

"What is certain is that the process of returning the bodies to the country of origin will be fully and guard until it is finished," said Head of Public Relations of PBSI Broto Happy.
