JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono targets 70 percent of Jakarta's population or the majority of them are covered by public transportation in daily activities.

Heru said this when he opened the International Mayors Forum (IMF) 2024 which was attended by delegates from 22 countries and 63 city governments in Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and West Asia.

"Jakarta seeks to provide sustainable transportation services by encouraging 70 percent of people near transit, the majority of whom are active around transportation mode nodes," said Heru, Tuesday, July 2.

Heru explained that the implementation of this concept involves the construction and increase of public transportation in bulk, in order to adjust the quality of people using public transportation in their daily activities.

The development of public transportation, continued Heru, is also adjusted to spatial planning arrangements by encouraging the provision of various facilities for activities and community needs within their residential radius.

"So, it can increase the efficient mobility of the population," he said.

On that occasion, Heru explained that this effort was included as one of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) efforts.

According to him, development is needed to organize a city with a dense population. Given, the United Nations predicts the population in urban areas around the world will reach 68 percent by 2050.

"The urban area is an attraction as a livelihood destination so urban areas need to implement sustainable development, including Jakarta," explained Heru.
