The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) ensures that port infrastructure facilities in Lake Toba in North Sumatra function properly in serving the community in these tourist destinations.
"We are reviewing the facilities and infrastructure of ferry ports in the Lake Toba tourist area in order to improve services and implementation of river, lake, and crossing transportation in the North Sumatra region," said Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation Risyapudin Nursin in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Sunday 30 June.
According to him, Lake Toba is a beautiful tourist destination area and is very attractive to the public both at home and abroad, so that it seeks to make crossing port facilities and infrastructure optimal.
"Therefore, we need to monitor and evaluate the implementation of transportation, especially the facilities and infrastructure of ferry ports in Lake Toba," he said.
He said that in the Lake Toba area, there are two crossing port routes, namely Ajibata - Ambarita Crossing Port and Tigaras Crossing Port - Simanindo.
He said that currently at Ajibata Port there is an Ajibata - Ambarita track service served by KMP Ihan Batak and KMP Pora Pora.
Meanwhile, there is also the service of the Ajibata/traditional Ajibata - Tomok and Ajibata - Nainggolan crossing routes.
"KMP Ihan Batak can accommodate a capacity of 150 passengers and 32 units of four wheels. Meanwhile, KMP Pora - Pora can accommodate a capacity of 130 passengers and 21 units of four wheels. Throughout 2024 this track has served 246,000 passengers," he explained.
He said that for services at Tigaras Port, there is a Tigaras - Simanindo track service served by KMP NORTH SUMATRA I, KMP NORTH SUMATRA II and KMP Julaga Tamba 1.

"This year the Tigaras - Simanindo route has served as many as 146 thousand passengers. It is hoped that in the future we can continue to improve services so that it makes it easier for people and tourists to travel to the Lake Toba area," he said.
He hopes that the Lake Toba Ferry Port Authority and Port Authority Office (KSOPP) can carry out control, supervision, and law enforcement in the fields of safety and security of ferry transportation activities in Lake Toba.
"Of course, controlling, supervision, and law enforcement in the fields of safety and security of ferry transportation on Lake Toba must be carried out as well as possible and intensively coordinating with stakeholders," he said.
