16-year-old Iraqi Girl Was Raped On A Migrant Ship That Finally Drowned In The Mediterranean

JAKARTA - A 16-year-old girl from Iraq is suspected of being raped by a man on a boat while crossing the Mediterranean sea. The ship carrying the migrants finally sank.

Citing Metro.co.uk, Italian television station, AGI in its report said, a 27-year-old man allegedly the perpetrator was arrested in Roccella Jonica, southern Italy.

The rescue operation carried out by SAR on the victims of the sinking ship took four days. A total of 36 bodies were found, 15 of them were children.

Survivors including suspected perpetrators of rape are holding on to the remains of the ship finally arriving at land.

The dangerous journey traveled by the migrants is arranged in an agreement somewhere near Bodrum, Turkey.

More than 70 people are expected to have paid to be able to board the ship crossing the Mediterranean sea, the majority of whom are Kurdish from Iran and Iraq.

Based on data from the Missing Migrants Project, nearly 30,000 migrants have been missing in the Mediterranean since 2014.
