The Directorate General of Immigration revealed that as many as 103 Taiwanese who were caught in the Immigration operation "Bali Becik" on Wednesday (26/6) were involved in online fraud with the target of victims abroad, one of which was Malaysia.

"They did scamming or fraud but the victim of fraud was a foreigner in another country, namely Malaysia," said Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement of the Directorate General of Immigration Saffar Muhammad Godam, Friday, June 28.

He said the 103 Taiwanese targeted the victims abroad based on the confessions of the perpetrators during the examination.

Godam also ensured that they were not involved in hacking which resulted in interference from the National Data Center (PDN) which affected immigration services on Thursday (20/6).

Not only that, they are also not related to online gambling cases or people smuggling.

"We haven't seen the relationship (of the PDN hack). For human smuggling, we make sure it doesn't exist, we also can't find any connection," he added.

Currently, the 103 foreigners consisting of 91 men and 12 women are temporarily detained at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim).

There is also the next step, he continued, to deport the 103 Taiwanese in the near future.

The Directorate General (Ditjen) of Immigration, he said, did not find any criminal elements in their arrests so that they could not be raised to the investigation stage.

"They carry out activities in Indonesia but the victims are in other countries so it is very difficult to fulfill the criminal element of things like this," he added.

He said online fraud targeting victims outside Indonesia was a pattern of cross-border crime.

For this reason, his party imposed administrative action by deportation because they abused their residence permit.

Meanwhile, Head of the Immigration Supervision Team of the Directorate General of Immigration Arief Eka Riyanto added that they came to Bali in stages from 2023-2024 with limited stay visas and visit visas.

"Their visa is still valid and all of them are over 18 years old," he added.

Currently, his party has coordinated with the government in Taiwan regarding the deportation process, which is all borne by the perpetrators or from the Taiwanese government. Previously, 103 Taiwanese were arrested during a joint team search at one of the villas in Marga District, Tabanan Regency on Wednesday (26/6) after going through Bali Becik Operations reconnaissance. The officers confiscated a number of items during the search which were suspected of being related to online crimes including 450 cell phones, a number of electronic devices, passports, internet equipment without cables, to laptops.
