JAKARTA - Yemen's Houthi group claimed to have attacked the MSC Sarah V ship in the Arabian Sea using a new ballistic missile.
The Joint Maritime Information Center for the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden said the Liberian-flagged ship was targeted by missiles in the Arabian Sea, but was not hit. Most likely the attack was carried out because it was considered to be in contact with Israel.
But Yahya Sarea, spokesman for the Yemeni group, claimed an "accuracy and direct" attack on the ship, and described the ship as "Israel".
British Maritime Trade Operations said crew members were reported to have survived. The ship was sailing 246 nautical miles off the coast of Yemen's Nishtun when it was the target of the attack.
