JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya and the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) continue to take steps to eradicate online gambling practices. One of them carries out cyber patrols.

"We continue to carry out cyber patrols, we continue to cooperate and coordinate effectively with Kominfo to carry out cyber patrols," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak to reporters, Wednesday, June 26.

Cyber patrols will target all existing sites. If gambling indications are found, investigators will immediately coordinate with Kominfo.

So, the account or site can be blocked immediately. In this way, it is hoped that it can suppress the emergence of online gambling sites.

"All accounts, sites suspected of committing criminal acts, are always coordinated with Kominfo to block them early," said Ade.

Polda Metro Jaya is known to have uncovered 23 cases of online gambling in the last four years.

"The number of disclosures of online gambling cases for the period January 2020 to June 2024 is 23 cases," he said.

Of the dozens of cases, 59 people were named as suspects. Some of them have been tried and some are still undergoing detention at the Polda Metro Jaya detention center.

However, eradicating online gambling is not an easy matter. Because, there are many obstacles that must be faced, one of which is the existence of dealers abroad.

"We are collaborating with the Divhubinter to carry out extradition of dealers whose whereabouts are known abroad specifically," said Ade.
