Mother And Child Of Japanese Citizen Stabbed At Chinese Jiangsu School Bus Stop

JAKARTA - A Japanese woman and her child were stabbed by a man at a school bus stop in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, China. A bus crew woman was also stabbed.

Reported by CNN, the mother and child suffered no life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, the suspect is now in Chinese police custody, which is investigating the case. No motive has been disclosed yet behind the attack.

The attack came as the mother waited to pick up her son at a bus stop near Japanese school on Monday, June 24 afternoon, according to Japanese officials.

The bus crew and parents at the scene managed to 'contaminate' the attackers using umbrellas and bags, according to NHK.

Recently, stabbings have been reported in public places across China, the Japanese consulate in Shanghai said in a statement.

Consulates urge Japanese citizens in the country to be aware of their surroundings in warnings echoed by the Japanese Embassy in Beijing.

Attacks on foreigners are rare in China, but the stabbing of Japanese mothers and children is the second incident this month in the country with such high security.

Earlier four instructors from US college were stabbed by a Chinese man in a park in the city of Jilin.

Two buses were at the bus stop at the time of the attack, said a woman who was at the scene waiting to pick up her son to the Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
