SYL Will Be Examined As A Crown Witness And Defendant At Today's Trial

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL will undergo a follow-up trial in the alleged extortion and acceptance of gratuities at the Jakarta Corruption District Court, today.

In the trial later, SYL will be examined as a crown witness for two other defendants, former Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagoyono and former Director of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery (Alsintan) Muhammad Hatta.

"Yes, that's right (SYL will witness the crown)," SYL's attorney, Djamaluddin Koedoeboen, told VOI, Monday, June 24.

After the examination as a crown witness is complete, SYL will be questioned again as a defendant.

Djamaluddin said that during the examination as a defendant, his client would convey that the indictment from the public prosecutor (JPU) had been wrong.

"Yes, we'll follow it together later," said Djamaluddin.

In this case, SYL was charged with extortion of up to Rp44.5 billion during the 2020-2023 period.

This action was carried out together with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagyono and the Director of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery of the Directorate General of Infrastructure and Facilities of the Ministry of Agriculture Muhammad Hatta.

This money was used for the benefit of Syahrul's wife and family, invited gifts, the NasDem Party, religious events, aircraft charters to Umrah and sacrifices. In addition, he was also charged with receiving gratuities of Rp40.6 billion from January 2020 to October 2023.
