Promoted By PKS To Be Jakarta Cagub, Sohibul Iman: I Must Be Ready

JAKARTA - The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has decided to carry the Deputy Chairperson of the PKS Syuro Council Mohamad Sohibul Iman running as a candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta in the 2024 Pilkada.

Responding to this, Sohibul admitted that he was ready to carry out his party's orders.

"As a party cadre, of course, I must always be ready to be given any mandate. Moreover, this mandate is the aspiration of DKI cadres and inspiration such as thoughts, considerations, and decisions from the central leadership," Sohibul told reporters, Monday, June 24.

Sohibul admitted that he did not have special preparations when he was promoted as a candidate for the Governor of DKI Jakarta. However, the former PKS President for the 2015-2020 period still obeyed the instructions he received at this time.

"As a cadre, I should not ignore the aspirations of the cadres and the inspiration of the leadership," explained Sohibul.

For information, the decision of the PKS DPP to carry Sohibul Iman in the Jakarta gubernatorial election is a follow-up to the proposal of the DKI Jakarta PKS Regional Leadership Council (DPW) to present a number of candidates. PKS DPP spokesman Ahmad Mabruri said that Sohibul was chosen because he was considered the best cadre.

"As the winning party in Jakarta, PKS has decided to fight for its best cadre as a candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta. The candidate we are carrying is Mohamad Sohibul Iman, who currently serves as Deputy Chair of the PKS Syuro Council," said Mabruri.

Sohibul is called by Mabruri as a figure with integrity and has qualified capacity. He once led PKS in the 2015-2020 period.

"Under his leadership, PKS experienced a significant increase in votes and chairs," he said.

Mabruri said his party only garnered 8.46 million or 6.77 percent of the vote in the 2014 Legislative Election. However, this figure increased to 11.49 million or 8.21 percent in the 2019 Legislative Election.

"Or an increase from 40 seats in 2014 to 50 seats in 2019. This means that he has proven leadership in bringing PKS up to class," he added.
