JAKARTA - Times Higher Education (THE) has just announced a list of the best campuses in the world its version. Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is included in the top 100 best universities in the Impact Ranking 2024 category in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6, 8, and 9.

Even for SDG 1 (No Popular), UGM is ranked 17th in the World from 1,093 universities around the world.

"The success of UGM being included in the list of the world's Top 100 in three SDGs and ranked 17th in the world for SDG 1 shows that the contribution of UGM in carrying out university tridharma activities really has a real impact on the community," said UGM Chancellor Prof. Ova Emilia as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, June 23.

Based on the results of the rankings released by THE on Wednesday (12/6), UGM is included in the list of the World Top 100 positions for 3 SDGs, namely SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) in 66th place, and 56th position for SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and the 89th position for SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).

According to Ova, THE also puts UGM in the position of the world's 101-200 for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), SDG 16 (peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).

The rankings compiled by global higher education analysts, are based on an analysis of 2,152 world universities for overall ranking and an increase of almost 25 percent of the number of participating universities in the previous year.

Meanwhile, for the ranking at each SDG, the number of universities analyzed varies. Overall, UGM occupies the position of 101-200 at the world level in this ranking.

The Chancellor advised UGM not only to be satisfied with maintaining its position but also to improve SDGs-based performance in order to play a role in the government's efforts to launch the achievement of SDGs in Indonesia in 2030.

"Efforts to go there have started this year, UGM already has a Sustainability Office that oversees activities and reports related to SDGs activities," he explained.

For information, THE is the only rating agency that measures the contribution of world universities based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Sustainable Development Goals promoted by the United Nations.

Gadjah Mada University (UGM) follows a total of 17 SDGs in the ranking of THE University Impact Rankings 2024.

The methodology used by THE in rankings is based on a contribution to 17 points to SDG using the assessment of several relevant metrics from each SDG.

Data collection of each metric comes from various sources, including data submitted by universities and bibliometric data from Elsevier.

Thousands of universities around the world can participate in the assessment of all or several SDGs with the condition that they follow at least 4 SDGs, where SDG 17 as SDG must be followed.
