Ahok: I'm Now More Ready To Be A Governor Because I've Passed The Mako Brimob School

JAKARTA - Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok admitted that currently his personality is better prepared to be governor than during his tenure as Governor of DKI for the 2014-2017 period.

Ahok admitted that his readiness to become a leader at this time, if given the opportunity, could be better after languishing in prison for one year and eight months a few years ago.

"I am now much more prepared to be governor because I have passed the'school' of Mako Brimob," Ahok said when met in Central Jakarta, Saturday, June 22, 2024.

Ahok did not deny that during his tenure as Governor of DKI Jakarta, he was considered arrogant and harsh. If he is not in prison, Ahok feels that his old behavior will not change.

While in detention, Ahok often fills out activities by writing Mandarin. Ahok admitted that he could train his patience in his attitude.

Ahok admitted that his experience of languishing in prison turned out to make him a more diplomatic person.

"I can't possibly fight with you for something useless. I can't possibly say harsh words anymore. I also don't want criticism, attacking people, (now) I want to give a solution," he said.

In addition, after serving his detention period, Ahok also learned to optimize budget savings while serving as President Commissioner of Pertamina from November 2019 to February 2024.

"What does this mean? I am now far more experienced. When the economic crisis, energy crisis, which is carried out to optimize costs. If I have proven the savings, you put me anywhere, it must be savings," explained Ahok.

However, this PDIP politician admitted that his party had not yet decided to carry him back to the 2024 Pilkada.

Now, Ahok has just been assigned to help win and prepare PDIP cadres appointed as candidates for regional heads to be better prepared for leadership.

"We are building a program so that regional heads and regional heads participate. It does not mean that I must be governor in North Sumatra, in Bali, or in NTT. No," said Ahok.

"So, basically my experience at the corporate, the experience that used to be in Jakarta, in Belitung, is expected to be able to share it," said the former Regent of East Belitung.
