Encourage Lecturers Involved In Harassment Of Students Dismissed, Unram PPKS Task Force: Preventing Repeated Actions

The Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) of Mataram University (Unram), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) proposed the temporary dismissal of a lecturer with the initials AW suspected of being involved in a sexual harassment case against a number of female students.

The head of the Unram PPKS Task Force, Joko Jumadi, said that his party had officially submitted the proposal to the Unram Chancellor. "What we sent was a letter of recommendation for temporary dismissal," Joko said in Mataram, Wednesday, June 19, which was confiscated by Antara.

In submitting the proposal, the Unram PPKS Task Force also requested that the chancellor transfer the final assignment guidance under the control of the lecturer at the agricultural faculty to other lecturers.

"Yes, this is the goal to prevent repeated actions, the task force recommends that the person concerned be temporarily dismissed in the teaching and learning process, and thesis guidance," he said.

Joko, who is also a lecturer at the Unram Faculty of Law, said that his party proposed a temporary suspension of AW until the truth of the allegation was revealed through the process of examining the PPKS task force.

"So, this temporary suspension is not a sanction, but a need for the examination process in us (Unram PPKS Task Force)," he said.

The Unram PPKS Task Force handled this issue based on the victim's complaint on May 30, 2024. From the information, there were already four female students who were included in the victim list.

Joko said the victim was a student in the final semester who is now completing his final assignment under AW's guidance.

As a form of follow-up, the PPKS task force has asked for information from the victim and lecturers who are suspected of being perpetrators of sexual harassment.

For the final conclusion, Joko is sure that the handling of this problem can be resolved no later than June 29, 2024.
