199 Children OfTEN Submitted To Be Indonesian Citizens

DENPASAR - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of Bali Province noted that as many as 199 children of half-hearted people volunteered to become Indonesian citizens (WNI) during January-June 2024.

"We want to ensure that every applicant has a strong commitment to be part of the Indonesian nation," said Head of the Bali Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office Pramela Yunidar Pasaribu in Denpasar, Wednesday, June 19.

This number increased compared to 2023 which reached 67 submissions to Indonesian citizens.

Meanwhile, in 2022, it was recorded that there were two children with dual citizenship who volunteered to become Indonesian citizens.

Of the 199 children resulting from the mixed marriage, 181 of them have attended the citizenship trial and 18 others are waiting for the trial schedule.

Reported by ANTARA, the results of the citizenship trial will be further processed by the Bali Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office and forwarded to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Jakarta for a final decision.

If their petition is approved, the petitioners will take a pledge of allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and officially become Indonesian citizens.

Of this number, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Bali recorded a decree to become an Indonesian citizen and has been sworn in to become an Indonesian citizen as many as seven people.

There was also a new citizenship trial which was held, namely 17 people on Friday (14/6) who were children with dual citizenship from Japan, Germany, the United States, Ireland and the Netherlands.

During the trial, the petitioners were asked questions related to national insight, knowledge about Indonesia, and the reason they wanted to become Indonesian citizens.

There is also a verification team from the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights consisting of elements of the Legal and Human Rights Service Division, Immigration Division, Bali Police, and the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes Bali.

His party estimates that the increase in application applications to Indonesian citizens is due to the submission period to become Indonesian citizens which ends on May 31, 2024, in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 21 of 2022.

Article 3A in Government Regulation Number 21 of 2022 states that children, as referred to in Article 41 of Law Number 12 of 2006 concerning Citizenship of the Republic of Indonesia, have not registered or registered but have not yet chosen citizenship, can apply for citizenship to the president through the minister.

Article 3A also regulates the details of the requirements to apply for citizenship.

Meanwhile, Article 67A stipulates that the application must be submitted no later than two years after the PP is promulgated on May 31, 2022.
