Delivering Eid Al-Adha Message, Joe Biden Encourages Ceasefire In Gaza

JAKARTA - United States (US) President Joe Biden took advantage of the Eid moment to convey a message to Muslims to push for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

According to Biden, this is the best way to help civilians suffer from the horror war between Hamas and Israel.

"Too many innocent people were killed, including thousands of children. Many families were forced to leave their homes and witness their communities destroyed. Their grief was enormous," Biden said, quoted by the White House, Monday, June 17.

Biden believes that the three-stage ceasefire proposal proposed by Israel to Hamas and supported by the UN Security Council is the best way to end violence in Gaza and could eventually end the war.

President Biden also highlighted America's efforts to support the rights of other Muslim communities facing persecution, including the Rohingya community in Myanmar and the Uyghurs in China.

"We are also trying to bring a peaceful resolution to the terrible conflict in Sudan," Biden said.

Domestically, Biden's message also promises firm action against Islamophobia.

"Our government is creating a national strategy to fight Islamophobia and other forms of bias and discrimination, which not only has an impact on Muslims, but also on Americans of Arab, Sikh, and South Asia descent," Biden said.
