JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) has presented a simulation of the stages of the general election (election) for the president, DPR, DPD and DPRD as well as regional head elections (pilkada) that will be held simultaneously in 2024.

This was conveyed by the Acting Chairman of the KPU, Ilham Saputra, at a hearing held by the DPR together with the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP).

"The KPU is preparing a simulation of two models for the stages of the 2024 Concurrent Election stages and one model for the 2024 Concurrent Election Stages schedule," Ilham said at the DPR building, Senayan, Monday, March 15.

The KPU divides the timing of the election and regional elections in two. Then, there are two dates prepared by the KPU in the implementation of the election with voting day, namely February 14 or March 6.

Ilham said the KPU's consideration was to decide two election options with the presidential and legislative elections on February 14 and March 6 by looking at weather conditions.

"If the election is held at the beginning of the year, the consideration is that January and February are usually the peak of the rainy season, which is expected to affect the implementation of the election," said Ilham.

Then, it's time for the local elections. The KPU simulated the implementation of the election day for the pilkada on November 13, 2024. This is in accordance with Law Number 1 of 2015 as amended by Law Number 6 of 2020.

Ilham explained, the eight to nine month pause from the implementation of elections and regional head elections in 2024 was made because political parties need sufficient time to prepare the conditions for nominating regional heads.

"The election stages must be completed when the pilkada candidacy begins, because the election results become a reference for political parties in (conducting) their nomination methods such as the number of seats (in parliament). So, the reference is still to use the 2024 election results," Ilham explained.
