Trump Visits Capitol Hill To Consolidate Ahead Of The Election With Republican MPs

JAKARTA - Donald Trump arrived on Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers from the Republican Party to build unity ahead of the November 5, 2024 elections, which could give his party control over the White House and both rooms in Congress.

Reported by Reuters on Thursday, June 13, Trump's motorcade stopped at the side door of the Republican office building, a block from the US Capitol, avoiding crowds of protesters in front.

Republican presidential candidates are scheduled to meet with Republicans at the House of Representatives in the morning and lunch with Senate Republican members to coordinate campaign strategies

Trump and current Democratic Party President Joe Biden are each enjoying a united government in the first two years of their term of office.

However, their party lost control of the House of Representatives during the part-time elections, hampering their ability to pass the law.

The meeting will focus on how Republicans can work together to advance policies to save America, including protecting Social Security and Medicare, securing the southern border, and cutting taxes on hard-working families, a senior Trump campaign official said.

Republican presidential candidates are also scheduled to speak on Thursday at Business Roundtable, an association of more than 200 company executive chiefs based in Washington, DC.

"Our ability to get a majority in the Senate is intrinsically related to President Trump's victory. So, we are like a team/one vision, and I think that's what we're going to talk about," Republican Senator Thom Tillis told reporters..

Republicans hope Trump can beat Biden, extend their current majority, namely 218-213 in the House of Representatives, and take control of the Senate currently led by the Democratic Party with a ratio of 51-49.
