6 Iranian Presidential Candidates And Short Profiles

YOGYAKARTA Six people were finally approved as a candidate for president of Iran. The approval was given by the Board of Trustees and legal experts to the six candidates. Then they will be participants in the Iranian presidential election which will be held on June 28.

As is known, Ebrahim Raisi, who served as President of Iran, died in an accident while riding a helicopter. To fill the vacant seats, the Iranian government held a presidential election to replace Ebrahim Raisi.

These six candidates will take part in a series of Iranian presidential elections such as direct debate, campaign, and speech. Here are the six profiles of the 2024 Iranian presidential candidate.

1. Mostafa Pourmohammadi

Mostafa Pourmohammadi is a figure better known as a former Iranian justice minister. His career began as a prosecutor at the Revolutionary Court. After that he became deputy intelligence minister who was directly responsible to President Rafsanjani.

In 2005, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appointed Mostofa Pourmohammadi as minister of interior with a term of office until 2008.

Previously, Pourmohammadi had also run for president in 2013 but he resigned in the middle of the trip. In 2013 he was also appointed Minister of Justice until 2017.

2. Amir-Hossein Ghazadeh Hasemi

Amir-Hossein Ghazadeh Hasemi actually works as a surgeon in the ears, nose, and throat. But currently he is the chairman of the Martyrs and Veterans Affairs Foundation.

Not only known as a conservative figure of view, Amir-Hossein is also known as the spokesman for the "Front Stability of the Islamic Revolution".

3. Alireza Zakani

Alireza Zakani has served as mayor and Iranian lawmaker for several periods. He is also known as a conservative politician although his career has not been as bright as other Iranian presidential candidates.

4. Masoud Pezeshkian

Many think that the potential of Masoud Pezeshkian to qualify for the president of Iran is quite large. He is a reformist figure among hardline groups. During his career as a politician, he often called for the unity of all political groups.

In addition, Masoud Pezeshkian is also known as an outspoken politician, especially when throwing criticism at him. As some people believe that Masoud Pezeshkian is a serious candidate for his competitors.

5. Saeed Jalili

Saeed Jalili was a lecturer at Imam Sadeq University. He also served as director of the Iran Ministry of Foreign Affairs Inspection Office in 1995. One of the moments that made him famous was when he served as head of Taheran's 2007 nuclear negotiations.

6. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf

Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf is also considered the dominant candidate in this year's Iran presidential election. He has served as mayor of Tehran and has a fairly close relationship with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards paramilitary.

Unfortunately, the figure of Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf is quite controversial. He was involved in repressive actions against Iranian students in 1999. In addition, he is also said to have ordered the release of sharp fire on students when he served as Iran's chief police officer.
