Prabowo Orders Gerindra AIA Cadres To Advance For South Sulawesi Gubernatorial Election

Chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto ordered cadres to run as contestants in the simultaneous Regional Head Election (Pilkada) including in the Province of South Sulawesi who will carry Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras (AIA) as a candidate for governor.

"For the Candidate for Governor of South Sulawesi, Andi Iwan Aras, it's already A1 (definite)," said Deputy Chairperson of Gerindra Sulsel Najmuddin to reporters in Makassar as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 7.

He emphasized that the decision was made at a National Working Meeting (Rakernas) by the Gerindra Party Chairman to carry potential cadres to fight in the simultaneous Pilkada contestation, including in South Sulawesi.

This is in line with the decision of the South Sulawesi Gerindra DPD which agreed to propose AIA to run as a candidate for the South Sulawesi gubernatorial election on November 27, 2024. As a result, recommendations were issued to be sent to the Gerindra DPP.

"The recommendations are already locked and there are no more external ones. This has been locked to the AIA. The National Working Meeting last week, and there have been instructions and orders from the DPP to prepare a winning strategy," Najamuddin said.

AIA is known to be the chairman of the South Sulawesi Gerindra DPD as well as a member of the DPR. Currently, the South Sulawesi Gerindra Party has succeeded in obtaining 13 seats in the South Sulawesi DPRD in the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg) and is entitled to the position of deputy chairman.

Meanwhile, the requirements for the candidate pair for governor and deputy governor of South Sulawesi are at least 17 seats or 20 percent of the total 85 seats in the South Sulawesi DPRD. This means that Gerindra still needs additional seats or coalitions with other political parties.
