JAYAPURA- The Jayapura Regency Environment Agency (DLH) will immediately add online monitoring or onlimo of Lake Sentani water levels measuring devices to anticipate and prevent pollution.
Head of the Cleanliness Division of the Jayapura Regency Environment Agency, Maverick Manangsang, in Sentani, Friday, June 7, said that so far, online monitoring has only been installed in Lake Sentani to measure the extent of the water pollution in that place.
"We have just installed an online monitoring tool around the yellow bridge or Ifar Besar Village, Sentani District, the progress will be informed to what extent," he said, quoted from ANTARA.
According to Manangsang, at the peak of the commemoration of Environmental Day throughout the World for Jayapura Regency, online monitoring tools will be installed on the Khalkote beach.
"The installation of water level measuring instruments in Lake Sentani has two units so that it is hoped that it can help with information on the extent of the water quality, whether it is suitable for consumption or not," he said.
He explained that the online monitoring tool that will be installed is assistance from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
"The way the tool works, it directly sends data every day to the data center of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, so that the Central Government will know the development of Lake Sentanu's water quality at all times," he said.
He added a direct report to the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry for concrete steps on what to do when the Sentani lake water is in a worrying stage.
"If the Sentani lake water is polluted, the team from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry will immediately go down and take concrete actions, by coordinating with local governments, both provincial and district," he said.
He said that with Lake Sentani which is so wide, online monitoring is needed which is installed at several points, either at rivers or rivers that lead to Lake Sentani or in villages in East Sentani, Sentani and Waibu Districts.
"Indeed, if there are only two, it is still lacking, to be able to measure the water quality of the lake so wide that it needs to be added," he said.
