JAKARTA - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that the intention of the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries to continue the war with Russia is fraught with serious consequences for them.

Peskov stressed that the West, of its own accord, wants to continue the war with Russia, both literally and figuratively.

"This, of course, will inevitably have its consequences. This will ultimately be very detrimental to the interests of the countries that have chosen the path of escalation," Peskov said, as reported by TASS on May 31.

In his opinion, NATO countries, especially the United States, are deliberately heading for a new round of tensions and provoking Ukraine to continue a senseless war with Russia.

"The member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, in particular the United States, and other European capitals in recent days and weeks have been on the verge of a new round of escalation. They are doing this deliberately," he explained, noting that Moscow "hears quite a lot of aggressive statements."

"This is nothing more than a policy of stirring up new levels of tension. We are aware that the negative trend in their approach, unfortunately, continues. They are provoking Ukraine in every possible way to continue this senseless war," Peskov said.

This is in connection with statements made by the West about Ukraine's attacks on Russian territory using weapons provided by them.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview with The Economist, suggested that the alliance members reconsider whether Ukraine can carry out attacks with Western weapons on military facilities located on internationally recognized Russian territory.

At the same time, at a session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the organization's secretary general said that the troops of the organization's member states should be absent from the Ukrainian land and sky. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to keep the alliance out of the conflict.

It is known that there is no agreement among the Western countries supplying weapons to Ukraine on restrictions on their use.

Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said that the US is not helping Kyiv use US weapons outside Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has also repeatedly stressed that he has ruled out the possibility of supplying Kyiv with Taurus cruise missiles, as Berlin would not be able to maintain control over targeting without sending German personnel to Ukraine, which, he said, is a line he is unwilling to cross.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported, citing sources, that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken after his Kyiv trip intended to advise President Joe Biden to lift Ukraine's ban on US weapons into Russian territory.

Separately, President Vladimir Putin said on May 28 that representatives of NATO countries, when talking about an attack on Russia, should "realize what they are doing."

He stated that Russia is closely following the discussion on this issue. If the Ukrainian Armed Forces use long-range weapons, Moscow should decide to create a buffer zone, President Putin said.
