JAKARTA - The Directorate of Monitoring of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said 60 percent of the 31,228 land cases over the past four years were related to criminal allegations. In addition, hundreds of cases were found related to the land mafia.

This figure was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, at the Technical Meeting (Rakernis) of the Directorate General of Land Dispute and Conflict Handling in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 29. Minister of ATR/BPN Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono participated in the activity.

"In the last four years, the KPK Monitoring Directorate has photographed 31,228 cases where 37 percent were disputes; 2.7 percent of conflicts; and 60 percent of cases related to land," said Ghufron as in a written statement from the institution, Thursday, May 30.

"In addition, 244 cases were also found regarding the land mafia from 2018 to 2021," he continued.

Ghufron also explained that there were 207 complaints that entered his institution throughout 2020-2022 regarding certificate services, dependent rights, and Complete Systematic Land Registration (PTSL). This condition made the KPK remind the importance of improving the governance of the Ministry of ATR/BPN by strengthening internal integrity.

This is because there are four points prone to corruption in the land management process. Among them are uncertainty in terms of conditions, procedures and costs; insufficiency and an inviscid system; inefficient and effective system; and the absence of complaint facilities.

"Land is not just an element of the economy, but needs to be taken care of comprehensively so as to make benefits to the community at large. On the other hand, if problems are left alone, there will be potential for corruption that will harm the lives of many people," he said.

On that occasion, Ghufron also reminded law enforcement officials as partners of the Ministry of ATR/BPN to understand legal offenses in handling land cases. "So there is no mistake in the decision," he explained.

Meanwhile, ATR/BPN Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) agrees that the land mafia is a concern for the community. He hopes that his staff can increase capacity and maintain integrity in serving the community.

"The capacity without integrity will be in vain, while integrity without capacity building does not make us more advanced," he concluded.
