Mahfud MD Comments On Revision Of The Constitutional Court Law To The Police: Indications Of Sharing Power, Compensation Of Political Cakes

JAKARTA - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD assessed that there have been efforts to share power that have occurred recently. He highlighted the revision of the Constitutional Court Law (MK) to the Police which seemed to be being chased aired on the DPR RI.

"We as people can draw simple conclusions, this is taking the opportunity to accumulate power which will be used as provision for the new government later," Mahfud said as quoted from his written statement, Thursday, May 30.

"What is the accumulation of power? The goal is to divide power, compensate political cakes for those who are considered meritorious or to embrace them again," continued the constitutional law expert.

Mahfud said that various revisions of the law could have negative effects. One of them is that it makes it difficult for future rulers to fight through the available legal structure because everything has been fenced out by law.

Thus, Mahfud said it was natural for civilians to have a sense of suspicion. This is because the various revised laws are nuanced to justify all the actions of the government.

"Hopefully like this, there will be a centralization of power, it is easy to control the activities and criticisms of civil society, easy to do," he said.

"Sorry, this is a collaboration between criminals and corrupt officials. Later there will be bad people who just need to be regulated, don't need to, just use that article, oh, this has a legal basis, oh this, and so on," concluded Mahfud.
