Jokowi Supports Indonesian Red And White Vaccine, But Must Be In Accordance With Scientific And Transparent Rules

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the government would certainly support the COVID-19 vaccine innovation that is being developed in Indonesia, namely the Red and White Vaccine and the Nusantara Vaccine.

It's just that, Jokowi reminded, all vaccine products developed must be in accordance with scientific principles. This must be done in order to produce safe, nutritious, and quality medicinal products and vaccines to prevent virus transmission in the community.

"Currently, the vaccines that are being developed in Indonesia are the Red and White Vaccines and the Nusantara Vaccines which we must continue to support. However, to produce safe, efficacious, and quality medicinal products and vaccines, they must also follow scientific principles", Jokowi said in a statement description of the video uploaded on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel, Friday, March 12.

He asked all scientific principles and clinical trials must be carried out according to applicable procedures. Not only that but this stage must also be carried out openly and transparently and involving many experts.

These requirements and stages, continued the former Governor of DKI Jakarta, are important to do. The aim is to prove to the public that the vaccine-making process puts precautionary elements and can be scientifically responsible.

"So that the vaccine produced is safe and effective", he said.

Later, if all stages have been passed, then the acceleration of the production of this domestically-made vaccine must be carried out. Thus, the need for vaccine doses for all Indonesians can be achieved.

"If the stages have been passed, we will speed up production to meet domestic demand for vaccines", Jokowi concluded.
