Habiburokhman: Impossible For Gerindra To Carry Anies In The Jakarta Gubernatorial Election

JAKARTA - The deputy governor of the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, emphasized that it is almost impossible for his party to return to carry Anies Baswedan as a candidate for governor in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. The reason is, there is not a single aspiration from cadres to grassroots who want Anies to be promoted as a cagub. It is known that Gerindra was carried forward in the 2017 DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election with Sandiaga Uno. At that time the Anies-Sandi pair won against Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok)-Djarot Saiful Hidayat in the second round.

"So far, there are no aspirations from cadres, grassroots, or administrators who propose Anies as the Jakarta Cagub. So it is almost impossible for Gerindra to propose Mr. Anies," Habiburokhman told reporters, Wednesday, May 29. Habiburokhman said, the mechanism for nominating regional head candidates from the Gerindra Party, usually initiated with input from cadres. Then discussed by the DPP and decided by the General Chairperson and Chairman of the Gerindra Board of Trustees, Prabowo Subianto. However, he said, no one proposed the name Anies Baswedan as a cagub. The Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR also revealed that the name most appeared at the grassroots of Gerindra today is Budisatrio Djiwandono. Budi is Prabowo's nephew who now serves as Deputy Gerindra. The name Budisatrio Djiwandono, said Habiburokhman, was also widely heard in his constituency in East Jakarta.

"In my electoral district, East Jakarta, many have proposed Budi Djiwandono, a lot of support for Mas Budi all over East Jakarta," he said. In contrast to Gerindra, PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin said he was happy if there were parties who wanted to carry Anies Baswedan in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada. However, PKB will still discuss internally about the candidates to be carried in the regional elections.

"Yes, if I personally am very happy if Anies is promoted, it will indeed be part of togetherness so far. But we will wait for the pilkada desk process which will discuss with all people of the DPW, DPC," said Cak Imin at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 28. Even so, Imin admitted that Anies Baswedan had not yet expressed his desire to run again in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. "In particular, not yet," he said.
