JAKARTA - Successfully leading Medical ASEAN (MASEAN), the medical association organization consisting of Southeast Asian countries for the past two years, the Indonesian Doctors Association has won the trust by leading the Junior Doctors Network-MASEAN (JDN -MASEAN) which was officially established on May 25, 2024 in Penang, Malaysia.

JDN Indonesian Doctors Association (JDN IDI) is one of the initiators of the establishment of JDN MASEAN together with JDN Singapore Medical Association (JDN SMA), JDN Malaysia Medical Association (JDN MMA), and JDN Brunei Medical Association (JDN BMA). The association, which is echoed by young doctors under the age of 40, was formed to build stronger relations and encourage collaboration between young doctors.

During its inauguration, delegates from MASEAN countries agreed to appoint Dr Tommy Dharmawan, SpBTKV, PhD who currently serves as Chairman of JDN IDI to lead JDN MASEAN.

In his remarks, Dr Tommy Dharmawan, SpBTKV, PhD said that it is an honor for the Indonesian Doctors Association and especially the Indonesian state because it is trusted to lead JDN MASEAN. JDN MASEAN is committed to assisting young doctors in advocating and representing important matters, including Professional Development, Network and Collaboration, Sustainable Medical Education (CME), Leadership Development and the community, as well as advocating the appropriate working conditions, and work safety," reads a written statement received by VOI editors after the conference.

Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) DR. Dr. Moh. Adib Khumaidi, SPOT who is also the Chair of MASEAN 2022-2024 expressed his pride that JDN IDI was appointed to be the first Chairman of JDN MASEAN. "This is not only an honor for the Indonesian Doctors Association and all members of JDN IDI but also an honor for the Indonesian state," concluded Dr. Adib.

The inauguration of JDN MASEAN in the MASEAN conference which took place in Penang- Malaysia this week and was attended by almost all medical associations representing ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, and Vietnam.
