YOGYAKARTA - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Special Region of Yogyakarta is still waiting for the results of the examination from the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regarding sanctions against officials of Class II B Sleman Prison or Cebongan Prison who are suspected of carrying out illegal levies.

"We are just waiting to see what kind of punishment will be given," said Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights DIY Agung Rektono Seto as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 27.

According to Agung, the alleged extortion case against the services of correctional inmates (WBP) in Cebongan Prison by an official with the initials "M" occurred at the end of 2023.

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of DIY, said Agung, has taken a number of steps and actions with the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Corrections and Inspectorate General (Irjen) of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights by deploying a team to the prison.

The examination of M, said Agung, has been processed at the Directorate General of Corrections and the Inspector General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

"We are waiting for the results of the examinations from the two agencies. However, we have withdrawn the person concerned (M) to the Regional Office (DIY) for guidance. It is no longer in Cebongan," he said.

Agung said that the disciplinary sanctions that would be imposed on unscrupulous Cebongan prison officials were fully determined by a team from the Directorate General of Corrections and the Inspector General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights according to the level of violations.

"It's a decisive team. There are mild kinds, while all have categories. Heavy sanctions can be, all possible, but still waiting," said Agung.

Regarding the eight inmates suspected of being involved in the extortion case, according to Agung, all of them have been transferred to a number of different prisons for guidance.

"Some go to Wirogunan Prison (Yogyakarta City), some go to Gunungkidul Wonosari Prison, seeing that the prison's ability is also not enough, right in Cebongan Prison, the capacity is a bit small, so we move it to another place," he said.

He said the sentences for the eight inmates would adjust the category and level of their crimes.

Apart from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Sleman Police are also investigating the alleged extortion case at the Class II B Sleman Prison.

"What is clear is that we are committed to taking action and law enforcement. Of course, this concerns public services. Now it's cool," said Agung.

To ensure a similar incident does not repeat itself, Agung claims to have intensified monitoring of WBP services in all prisons in DIY.

"In fact, I went to the field for one week to see the service, see security, see what kind of foodstuffs, health services to prisoners are," said Agung Rektono Seto.
