The SAR Team For The Evacuation Of Hipotermia Female Climbers From Mount Bawakaraeng

The Joint SAR Team has again evacuated a 19-year-old female climber named Naila, who experienced hypothermia while at Post 9 Gunung Bawakaraeng, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi.

"During the evacuation process, the victim was unconscious several times on the way," said Makassar Basarnas Office Team Commander Afie Djulkifli as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 25.

From the information received, the incident was reported on Friday (24/5) night. The four young climbers were two women and two men, namely Risal (19), Fafil (20), Annisa (19), Naila (19).

However, while at Post 9, Mount Bawakaraeng, the victim who was climbing with three of his colleagues experienced problems. His body had hypothermia because the air temperature was very cold.

Due to this incident, one of his colleagues reported the incident to the SAR Alert Post in Lembanna, the foot of Mount Bawakaraeng to immediately evacuate the victim.

"The Joint SAR team made an evacuation trip with six hours. The victim arrived safely at the Bulubalea Command Post, then medical treatment was carried out on the victim," Efie added.

Previously, the Makassar Basarnas team evacuated a female climber named Elisa (23) who suffered a leg injury while climbing Mount Bawakaraeng, Tinggi Moncong District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi on Friday.

Head of the Makassar Basarnas Office, Mexianus Bekabel, said that his party received information that there were climbers who experienced problems on Mount Bawakaraeng and immediately deployed a team to the location to help with the evacuation.

According to information received on Thursday (23/5), the victim and nine colleagues climbed to the top of Mount Bawakaraeng.

However, while at Post 9, the victim had an accident, causing the right leg to sprain and cause difficulty walking.

The Basarnas team together with the potential for SAR carried out operations and when they arrived at the foot of the mountain coordinated to immediately go to Post 9, to evacuate the victims, and immediately evacuated them via the Bulu Balea route from Post 9.

The evacuation of the victims took place dramatically because the location was quite dark but safely arrived at the foot of Mount Bawakaraeng at around 05.00 am, and was immediately handed over to the medical team for treatment.

For this incident, Mexianus appealed to those who have a hobby of doing activities in the wild, including climbing mountains, to continue to prioritize safety before planning activities.

He explained that preparations, including those related to safety equipment, must be done carefully.
