The Surabaya Embarkation Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) informed that as many as 25 Hajj candidates from East Java were confirmed to have failed and postponed their departure to the Holy Land.

Secretary of PPIH for Surabaya Embarkation Abdul Haris explained that as of May 12-24, 2024, 17,926 prospective pilgrims had been dispatched to the Holy Land which was divided into 51 flying groups (cluters).

"There is a prospective hajj candidate who failed to go to the Holy Land because he died at the Surabaya Hajj Dormitory and has been buried in his area of origin," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 25.

In addition, there were 24 Hajj candidates from the 51 groups who postponed their departure to the Holy Land due to illness.

Ten of the prospective pilgrims have decided to undergo medical treatment in their respective areas of origin and postpone the implementation of their pilgrimage until next year. One of them is because it is known to be pregnant.

Meanwhile, 14 other Hajj candidates, consisting of seven people who are still undergoing treatment at the Surabaya Hajj Regional General Hospital (RSUD), as well as seven assistants who may still be able to follow this year's group.

"We pray, yes, those who die get forgiveness and become experts in heaven. Then the sick may be given a cure and can leave. Although not this year, hopefully next year they can leave," said Haris.

The Head of the Hajj and Umrah Organization Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of East Java said that the quota of pilgrims departing through the Surabaya Embarkation this year was 39,322 people.

They are the majority from East Java and some from Bali and East Nusa Tenggara, all of which are divided into 106 groups. The last batch is scheduled to leave for the Holy Land on June 10, 2024.

PPIH Embarkation Surabaya ensures that all hajj quotas are met.

"Because those who were confirmed to have postponed or failed to leave this year were immediately replaced by pilgrims who had been registered as reserves," said Haris.
