JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the House of Representatives Guspardi Gaus assessed that the policy of holidays and collective leave that is too long a year needs to be reviewed.
According to Guspardi, complaints from some people, especially business actors, need to get a government response so that collective holidays and leave do not interfere with the work productivity of the private sector and public services by government employees.
"We hope that what elements of society voiced against this joint leave policy really needs to be carried out an in-depth study because our workforce productivity is far from the average countries in ASEAN, as well as countries that exist in parts of the world," said Guspardi, Tuesday, May 21.
"Therefore, if too many holidays, of course this is also a problem when we talk about low productivity. A lot of holidays will certainly trigger something counterproductive," he added.
According to Guspardi, the collective leave for ASN was initiated by Vice President Jusuf Kalla when he was a companion to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). The joint leave is intended so that ASN or government employees have relatively long recreational time with their families.
Joint leave also sometimes means that the holiday is extended due to a national tight day or harkitnas. Guspardi assessed that the joint leave due to the extended holiday would be detrimental to the private sector because they were forced to postpone dealing with government offices on weekdays that should still be working days.
"There is a term harkitnas, a national tight day so that it is used as a holiday. As a result, of course, private companies who want to deal with the government are forced to extend their time because on a day that is actually not a holiday, but there is a policy from the government to be used as a holiday together, entrepreneurs are forced to delay dealing with the government," he explained.

With such conditions, said Guspardi, the government needs to review the joint leave policy by paying attention and considering complaints from various elements of society, including entrepreneurs.
"As a member of Commission II, of course, I also need to listen to the government so that there needs to be an in-depth study to evaluate the policies taken by the government regarding the joint holiday policies that have been carried out so far," concluded Guspardi.
