Dean Huijsen Doesn't Want A Team Other Than Real Madrid

Dean Huijsen has dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, like his idol Sergio Ramos (Instagram/@realmadrid).

JAKARTA - Dean Huijsen said he wanted to be at Real Madrid since the first day he was introduced as the club's first player to recruit this summer, Tuesday, June 10, 2025, local time.

He confirmed that since Real Madrid called him, Huijsen has not looked at other teams.

Real Madrid announced Huijsen's signing last month on a five-year contract, after the club activated the Spanish international's 50 million-pound release clause at AFC Bournemouth.

Huijsen became a star in the 2024/2025 Premier League season, which made him make his debut in the Spanish National Team (Timnas) in March 2025.

According to ESPN reports, Real Madrid beat a number of top European clubs to recruit the centre-back.

Huijsen officially signed his contract at Real Madrid on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 and posed with his new shirt number 24.

He was later introduced by Los Blancos President Florentino Perez, before answering questions from the media.

"I wanted to be here from day one. Since Madrid called me, I haven't looked at other teams."

"I arrived at the best club in the world. I am here to give everything, work hard, and stay humble."

"Hopefully we can win a lot of trophies together, starting with the 2025 Club World Cup. Real Madrid is a club in my life," Huijsen said in a short speech.

Perez calls Huijsen a modern center-back, ready for the present and the future, and one of the great players to appear in football in recent years.

The Real Madrid president added that many big clubs wanted to recruit Huijsen.

Huijsen was introduced a week after the new coach, Xabi Alonso, before introducing another new player, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The defender said he had spoken to Alonso about his role in the team.

"We've spoken a little bit. We talked about what he expected from me. I think I fit Xabi's style of play."

"I will try to contribute to the team. I think I have shown that I am ready," said Huijsen.

Huijsen further described former Real Madrid and Spanish captain Sergio Ramos as his idol although he said he was not thinking of wearing Ramos' number four shirt one day.

"(Ramos) sent me a message on the day) (the transfer) was official. He's my greatest idol, the best centre-back in history," said Huijsen.

Apart from that, Real Madrid flew to the United States - where they will be based in Palm Beach, Florida - to take part in the 2025 Club World Cup.

Los Blancos are scheduled to face Al Hilal in their opening match in Miami on 18 June 2025.

Alonso, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti, was tasked with improving Real Madrid, who finished second in La Liga last season, were eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals, and lost in all four El Clasico matches for the 2024/2025 season to Barcelona.
