Deadly Bus Accident Entering Ravine In Sumedang: 22 People Killed, Bus Hit An Electric Pole

Officers are still evacuating a number of victims on the bus that rolled into a ravine in Wado District, Sumedang, West Java (ANTARA)

SUMEDANG - A tourist bus with 59 passengers in the group of SMP IT Al Muawanah, Cisalak, Subang, West Java entered a ravine in Sumedang.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Tanjakan Cae, Sukajadi Village, Wado District, Sumedang Regency, West Java. A local resident, Dede Suhendar, witnessed the unfortunate bus driving at high speed and then shaking or going out of control.

"The bus was going very fast and saw the bus roll out of control," said Dede describing the accident situation on Wednesday, March 10.

The bus then fell into a 25 meter deep ravine. This bus had hit an electric pole and then heard a loud thud, allegedly colliding with the bus as it rolled into a ravine.

"There are frequent accidents here. The road is quite steep and curves with a cliff side," explained Dede.

From the information gathered, the death toll was recorded at 22 people. About 30 people were injured.

"All of them have been evacuated to the hospital where 6 people were crushed," he concluded.

Currently the joint team is still waiting for heavy equipment to evacuate the victims who are still crushed on the bus.
