TANJUNGPINANG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province (Kepri) noted that nine housing units of coastal residents were damaged due to the impact of a tornado.

The Head of BPBD Bintan Ramlah said the location of the tornado was precisely in Tanjung Talok Village, Seri Kuala Lobam District on Monday (20/5) morning.

"Until now, nine houses have been affected by the tornado," Ramlah said in Bintan, quoted by ANTARA.

Meanwhile, the number of families affected by the tornado was 33 people out of a total of nine families (KK), but all were in a safe condition and fled to the homes of residents and relatives around them.

Ramlah said the impact of the tornado caused several roofs of residents' houses to be damaged, namely six houses that were slightly damaged and three houses were moderately damaged.

After the incident, said Ramlah, the joint team consisting of BPBD Bintan together with related agencies immediately carried out a rapid assessment, including assessment of damage, losses and fulfillment of basic needs for the basis of further reference plans.

In addition, the joint team has also carried out a survey of locations affected by the tornado.

"We carried out mutual assistance to clean the victim's house due to a tornado, and collected data," said Ramlah.

The current condition of the joint team together with the community is involved in cleaning up damaged roof debris and making efforts to repair and transfer goods.

"This is temporary data after we took action at the tornado," said Ramlah.
