Hit By High Waves, Captains And Crew Members Of The Ship Died In Riau Waters

TEMBILAH - A captain and one crew member (ABK) from a fast boat (speedboat) were found dead in the waters of Kuala Patah Parang Village, Sungai Batang District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province.

The Head of the Batang River Sector Police (Kapolsek), Iptu Hendri J, said the ship departed from the Buluh River, Kuala Indragiri District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, to Kuala Tungkal, West Tanjung Jabung Regency (Jambi). While on the way, the ship headed by Udin and ABK MD on Thursday, May 16, was hit by waves that caused the rope to break.

"At the same time, the captain and crew members fell into the river. Shortly after that, the body of the captain named Udin was found dead and floating in the sea. Meanwhile, the crew at that time the speedboat had not been found and a search was still being carried out," said Hendri as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 17.

After searching, at around 14.05 WIB, the crew's body was recovered around the scene. While on the ship there were five passengers consisting of four men and a woman. Passengers were then evacuated to a resident's house in Kuala Patah Parang.

The police chief said the fast boat was initially found by a fisherman from Kuala Patah Parang Village, Masdar. At that time he was fishing around the waters and saw a fast boat.
