KULON PROGO - Kulon Progo Resort Police, Yogyakarta Special Region, revealed a case of alleged criminal acts of trafficking in persons using the mode of traveling abroad in Serbia with five victims from Wonosobo, Central Java.

Head of the Kulon Progo Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Dian Purnomo said the chronology of the TIP case was revealed on Friday (26/4) around 17.20 WIB at Yogyakarta International Airport.

"We managed to arrest the suspect on behalf of ML, 41 years old, a Wonosobo resident and secured five victims who also came from Wonosobo," said Dian as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 14.

He said the evidence that was secured was six passport books, six boarding sheets, and Air Asia tickets from Yogyakarta to Kuala Lumpur.

On Friday (26/4) around 17.20 WIB at Yogyakarta International Airport, information was found that there were migrant workers departing from Yogyakarta to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) for Serbia.

Five victims were examined by officers from the Indonesian Migration Workers Protection Service Center (BP3MI) and Immigration were found that the prospective migrant workers were not equipped with valid documents.

After that, the victim was examined by the Kulon Progo Police Satreskrim.

"The results of our intense examination of the victims and perpetrators, we have found evidence and carried out a case title, and determined the suspect to ML," he said.

ML perpetrators are subject to Article 2 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 10 of Law Number 21 of 2007 with a maximum imprisonment of 15 years and a fine of Rp600 million.

Meanwhile, Head of the Yogyakarta Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Center (BP3MI) Tonny Chriswanto said that the placement of Indonesian migrant workers who will work abroad will certainly proceed to BP3MI.

"It can be ascertained that everyone who will work abroad if they do not go through a process at BP3MI, we make sure that the person concerned works non-procedurally or illegally," he said.

He said BP3MI was not in order to make it difficult for residents who would work abroad.

"We only ensure that residents who will work abroad are protected legally, procedurally and have job competencies that are applied for," he said.
