KPU Uses Census For Faktual Verification Of Independent Candidates

Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari explained that the factual verification stage for individual candidate pathways in the 2024 Pilkada will use the census method.

"So, for example, 10,000 ID cards were collected, 10,000 names were in accordance with the support list, which would then be verified factually by KPU friends in the regions according to their respective levels," said Hasyim as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 13.

He explained that the results of factual verification will have two possibilities; namely meeting the requirements and not meeting the requirements.

"For those who have not met the requirements, they are given the opportunity for improvement, and later re-verification will be carried out, and the final limit of the Regional KPU; Provincial KPU, Regency/City KPU will conclude whether the support for prospective candidates through individual channels meets the requirements or not on August 19, 2024," he said.

Furthermore, he said, individual candidates who meet the requirements will be used as conditions for candidacy during the registration period for regional head candidates, namely 27-29 August 2024.

Before factual verification is carried out, the individual candidate will carry out the administrative verification process if the nomination requirement has been declared complete.

"If the administrative verification checks the truth and validity of the document. So, the truth of the validity of the document is whether the supporting names on the list are in accordance with the proof of the ID card attached or not," he explained.

It was explained that there were two possibilities in the administrative verification; namely meeting the requirements, and not meeting the requirements.

"For those who do not meet the requirements, then given the opportunity to make improvements, and after repairs are carried out, administrative research is carried out again. And for those who are declared eligible for administrative verification of support, then proceed with factual verification," he said.
